She hails from Krobo Odumase in the Lower Manya Krobo Municipality in the Eastern Region. A product of Ghana Senior High School, Koforidua 2020 batch, Ms. Gifty gained admission to UCC in 2021 to pursue a BSc in psychology. She is a devout member of the Methodist Church Ghana and Ghana Methodist Students’ Union (GHAMSU UCC Local).
Apart from academic work, Ms. Gifty held some positions in GHAMSU UCC Local, such as Internal Rep, SRC Hall, 2021/22, and Prayer Secretary, Women’s Ministry, 2021/22. She rose from this position to become the Assistant Diocesan Secretary for GHAMSU Cape Coast Diocese in 2022/23 and subsequently became the Secretary for GHAMSU Cape Coast Diocese in the following academic and spiritual year.
In an interview with Ms. Gifty, she reiterates that academic excellence is a hallmark in the Methodist Church Ghana and that she had to capitalize on that to also shine to the world. She stated that, even though she had some academic challenges, she sought help from some teaching assistants and lecturers, one of which is Prof. Lebbaeus Asamani, who encouraged her to be herself and focus on her studies always.
She eventually overcame these challenges by participating in group studies (peer teaching) and also consistently going through her notes. Ms Gifty dreams of becoming a Clinical and Neuropsychologist to help promote mental health. Reflecting on the lyrics of MHB 431 from the Methodist Hymnal, the last stanza, “Finish then thy new creation, pure and spotless let us be…” Ms. Gifty is optimistic that she is being changed from glory into glory until she is lost in wonder, love and praise.
Ms. Gifty’s advice to students is that there should be a balance in their academics with Godly activities. It is without a doubt that when you make God’s service your delight, He will make your want His care.
Indeed, It is a glorious end for Mrs. Gifty Terkper and GHAMSU UCC Local as a whole.
